Want to get the new year off to a grand start?
Join more than 50,000 revelers expected to flock to Grand Park in downtown Los Angeles for the 3rd annual New Year’s celebration starting at 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 31. Admission is free.
The event, alcohol-free and family-friendly, will feature musical acts on three stages and animated light projections bouncing among three buildings—the county Hall of Records, The Music Center’s Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and Los Angeles City Hall. The projections, created by Garson Yu and his design agency, yU+co, will culminate in a 3D “countdown to midnight” projection on two sides of City Hall.
There also will be art installations, free photo booths, and onsite food vendors selling everything from churros to Thai BBQ. If you go, dress warmly and get tips for keeping things safe and enjoyable here.
Parking is available at lots including the Music Center and Walt Disney Concert Hall, or take advantage of free fares on Metro from 9 p.m. New Year’s Eve to 2 a.m. on January 1. Who knows? You might even score a free glow necklace—the perfect accessory for keeping spirits bright as 2016 begins.
