Los Angeles County Fire Department
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Fire Station
Construction Grant Award
The Fiscal Year 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Assistance to Firefighters Fire Station Construction Grant provides opportunities, on a competitive basis, for financial assistance directly to fire departments to modify existing or build new “shovel ready” fire stations in order for departments to enhance their response capabilities and protect the communities they serve from fire and fire-related hazards. The authority for the Fire Station Construction Grant is derived from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. There is no cost-share required under this grant program. On Friday, October 2, 2009, the Los Angeles County Fire Department Homeland Security Section Grants Unit received notification that the grant application submitted for the new Fire Station 128 construction project was approved for award in the amount of $3.6 million.
The Fire Station 128 construction project is a new 9,976 square-foot fire station that will be constructed on 1.34 acres at 28450 Whites Canyon Road in the Santa Clarita Valley. The fire station will include approximately 6,603 square-feet for general house operations (main office, day room, kitchen, exercise room, and dormitory quarters to accommodate up to seven personnel) and approximately 3,373 square-feet of apparatus bay area. The two-bay apparatus room will accommodate one engine (pumper) and one additional front line emergency vehicle. The architectural plan conforms to the Department’s new fire station prototype design/construction specifications adopted in 1999 and complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act and State Health and Safety requirements. This fire station construction project can begin immediately upon receiving Environmental and Historic Preservation
approval and can be completed on an expedited schedule within the 36 month grant period of performance.
