Beaches & Harbors

The County operates and manages 20 beaches stretching along 25 miles of the County's pristine 75-mile mainland coast. It also owns and manages Marina del Rey, the world's largest and most modern small craft harbor, homeport to more than 5,000 pleasure boats. The County also manages Dockweiler RV Park, the only beach recreational vehicle campground in the County. Beautiful Santa Catalina Island, 22 miles off the coast, is only one hour away by boat or 15 minutes by air. Besides the normal beach activities, there are glass-bottom boats and undersea tours on a semi-submarine.

Online Reservations Available for Parks, Dockweiler Beach
The public may now go online to make and pay for reservations at four Los Angeles County parks and Dockweiler Beach. Residents may access, review, schedule and reserve facilities and services, including swim lessons, picnic areas, RV park spaces, community rooms and conference quarters at Castaic Lake State Recreation Area, Arcadia County Park, Alondra Park, Charles S. Farnsworth Park and Dockweiler.

	Lifeguards Los Angeles County lifeguards perform more than 10,000 ocean rescues a year and watch over an estimated 55 million beachgoers. County lifeguards also provide around the clock paramedic services to the residents of Catalina Island.

	Monitoring Ocean Water The County monitors the ocean water and issues warning advisories or closes beaches when bacteria levels increase due to heavy rain or sewage or chemical spills.
